• What is Pack the Pantry?

Pack the Pantry is an honorable competition between UBalt student organizations and student facing offices.  Groups are given an item list from the Campus Pantry, with points awarded to different items.  Donations are collected throughout Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, and the group or office with the most points "wins."  They receive a trophy which is then passed on to next year's winner.

  • When Was it Started?

Pack the Pantry was started in 2023 by ODK's then-vice president Meagan Etner.  As someone who has relied on food pantries and other support systems, especially through her local community college, she understood the importance of these systems, and the need for college students to have access to food.

  • I Don't Belong to a Student Org.  Can I Still Participate?

Yes!  Even if you don't belong you can purchase item/s and drop off in the box of your organization or office of choice.

  • When and Where Can I Drop Items Off?

The drop off location is the 2nd floor of the Student Center, in the cafe / next to the Bee Card office between 10:30 am and 6:30 pm.  The event runs Monday November 18 - Tuesday, November 26.

  • What Items are Requested?

    Items Must Be:

    • Shelf-Stable (unless otherwise stated)
    • 3+ months before their expiration date
    • Reasonably sized: The goal of the Campus Pantry is to help as many people as possible in a sustainable and realistic manner. We want to avoid getting a 146-ounce bottle of detergent, which can only go to one person, when three 46-ounce bottles (which is still 32 loads of laundry!) could help three people.

    Items Not Accepted:

    • Bulk-sized items that cannot be broken up (i.e., a box of 60 individually wrapped granola bars is okay, but a 20 lb. bag of rice is not)
    • Those whose packaging is open or damaged
    • Any item not in its original commercial packaging
    • Glass jars
    • Items received from the pantry
    • Those past their expiration date

**PLEASE NOTE THAT FROZEN ITEMS AND PRODUCE CAN ONLY BE DROPPED OFF ON TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY FROM 12:00 PM TO 6:00 PM DIRECTLY TO THE PANTRY OR MONDAY & THURSDAY AT THE CSEI OFFICE FROM 10:30 AM TO 6:00 PM . PLEASE LEAVE A NOTE IN YOUR ORGANIZATION’S BIN NOTING WHAT YOU DONATED SO IT CAN BE COUNTED IN YOUR POINTS TOTAL**)
