The Criminal Justice and Forensic Studies Society (CJFSS) of the University of Baltimore embarked on an educational journey to the USG campus in Rockville, delving into the business of cyber forensics under the guidance of Mr. Jared Stern, CEO of Prudential Associates.
Our Speaker: Jared Stern, is a 35-year veteran of investigative, security, risk management, and intelligence acquisition operations. Mr. Stern is also a certified computer forensic examiner and has been called upon to testify as a digital forensics expert in numerous court cases at the local, state, and federal levels. As a certified private investigator and investigative agency license holder, Mr. Stern has also testified in court as a Fact Witness on more than 500 occasions.
With a vibrant group of 11 students in attendance, the day commenced with an engaging lecture by Mr. Stern. In his insightful presentation, he provided a nuanced exploration of the intersection between criminal justice and cyber forensics, covering topics such as:
- Collaborations between the private sector and law enforcement in digital investigations.
- Real-world case studies highlighting the challenges and complexities of cyber forensic work.
- The role of expert witnesses in legal proceedings and their invaluable insights.
- An overview of essential tools utilized in digital forensics investigations(Magnet AXIOM, X-ways, Cedar Pelta, Cellebrite, etc).
- Practical advice on career prospects and certifications within the field of cyber forensics.
Following the lecture, students had the opportunity to visit Prudential Associates' facilities, gaining firsthand exposure to the operational aspects of cyber forensic investigations.
The day concluded with a group lunch at Panera Bread, providing students with a platform to reflect on the insights gained and foster team relation within the CJFSS community.
The Rockville trip proved to be a resounding success, exemplifying CJFSS's commitment to providing students with practical learning experiences and valuable industry insights.
